During 2009, Lok Adalat which was held in Kalburgi categorically recommended the establishment of pesticide residue analysis laboratory at Hyderabad-Karnataka region by looking into the indiscriminate usage of pesticides and its related hazards on the environment as well as on human beings.
Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Ministry of Food Processing Institute, Government of India is kind enough to extend the financal support to create required infrastructure. Now a separate well equipped laboratory, “Pesticide Residue and Food Quality Analysis Laboratory” was established at University of Agricultural Science, Raichur. The main objectives include:
1. Surveillance of pesticide usage pattern at Hyderabad-Karnataka region’s cropping system.
2. Standardization of the multi residue analytical method for major insecticides in cereals, pulses and vegetables.
3. Qualitative and quantitative determination of pesticides residues in field crops ecosystem viz., grains, fodder, feed, soil, water, etc.
4. To strengthen the infrastructure and test the contaminants in food, proximate composition, microbial hazards and quality parameters of various food materials.
5. Dissipation studies of pesticide in various strata of environment.
6. Development of pesticide residue analysis methodology for known pesticide reference standard materials will be carried out in the laboratory.
7. Establishment of Pesticide residue analysis laboratory as per standards of NABL
8. Further data will be send to All India Coordinated Research Project on Pesticide residue Monitoring, New Delhi.
